6 simple steps to help achieve more in your day

  1. stop procrastinatingRemove all distractions. This is essential when you begin working. Turn emails off so you do not get notifications. Shut off Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other social media to eliminate the temptation of checking for the sake of checking. Also, try having your morning coffee or tea ready before you sit down to start work.
  2. Create a daily to-do list. In such a fast-paced world, getting caught up trying to complete too many tasks but then realising you haven’t actually completed one can be a reason for procrastinating. A to-do list brings control back into the situation. When each item is completed, tick it off as this helps justify how your day is spent.
  3. Start with the most difficult task. Don’t waste time each day stressing over challenging tasks, it is only a time wasting activity. Instead of thinking about it all day, set that task as the first challenge for the day and get it over and done with. The rest of the day will then appear easy.
  4. Concentrate on the end result. Before getting into your work day, think about how you will feel at the end of the day when you have ticked all your tasks off your to-do list. By concentrating on the end result, you for longer periods of time.
  5. Reward yourself. This is especially beneficial when you work for yourself as the big achievements often get forgotten as there is no one else to celebrate with. When you work hard, you deserve to reward yourself for all your effort. Little rewards along the way can make a daunting task not so daunting anymore.
  6. Ask for help. It is OK to admit you have taken on a little too much. Delegating tasks to other people can ease the pressure and often will allow you to produce better quality work.
